Equipment and Technology

In addition to our comprehensive exams, we have equipped our four modern exam rooms with some of the newest technology to provide further analysis of the health of the eye, as well as a determination of any prescriptions to optimize vision.

Visual Field Testing:

The visual field testing is performed by our technicians with the help of the FDT machine. Tiny lights are flashed and in response, the patient must press a button whenever he/she sees the light. This seemingly simple test tracks for visual field loss or damage to the optic nerve, which is the initial symptom for glaucoma. It is very important to diagnose and treat this disease at it's early stages.

GDX:

We would like to introduce our newest piece of equipment--> The Zeiss GDx™! This piece of machinery allows for the doctor's to spot glaucoma at an earlier stage. The exam lets the doctor see the pattern and thickness of the nerve fibers in the back of your eyes, then compares the results to normal values. Thinner nerve fibers can indicate glaucoma long before any vision has been lost. Total exam time usually takes less than a minute!

Please note that upon your arrival we will also give you the option to take the Optomap, which takes a picture of the retina. We also offer the GDX glaucoma screening test, recommended for patients over the age of 40.

Anterior Segment Photography:

This machine enables the doctors to use a digital camera, which is attached to the slitlamp, to take a picture of the anterior segment of the eye. Whereas the Optomap test examines the back of the eye, or the retina, this piece of equipment examines the front of the eye, or the cornea. The digital pictures are then easily pulled up on the computer for the patient to view.

Automated Refractor/Keratometer/Corneal Topographer & FDT:

The Topographer is a special computer that can test your eyes in two ways at once. It measures the power of your eye as well as the roundness of your corneas. The FDT tests your side vision.
