Melanie Macbeth, O.D.

Dr. Melanie Macbeth received her doctorate degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston in 2004, graduating in the top three percent of her class. She joined our practice in 2004. Dr. Macbeth has a wide variety of experience in ocular disease, pediatric optometry, and specialty contact lenses.

Her clinical experience during optometry school includes training at the Lahey Clinic, East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, VA Hospitals, the Perkins School for the Blind, Boston Medical Center, and the New England Eye Institute.
Dr. Macbeth was a co-founder and President of the Massachusetts Society of Optometry Students organization. She was awarded the Student Leadership Award by the American Optometric Association, and Contact Lens Excellent award by the Rigid Gas Permeable Lens Institute.

Throughout optometry school, Dr. Macbeth was active in the student chapter of the Volunteer Optometrists Serving Humanity (VOSH) group, an outreach organization to those in need of eye care and eyeglasses around the world. In 2003, she participated in a mission to Chetumal, Mexico. She was in a group of about 20 students and optometrists who performed eye examinations and supplied eyeglasses to people in need. She found the experience to be very rewarding, and hopes to participate in other VOSH missions in the future.

Dr. Macbeth is certified in Corneal Refractive Therapy, or orthokeratology, in which contact lenses are used to reshape the eyes while sleeping at night in order to avoid wearing glasses or contact lenses during the day.

She spent her junior year abroad in Cork, Ireland, where she took courses in biology, painting, photography, and the Irish language.

Dr. Macbeth is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists (MSO). She lives in Waltham with her husband, son, and daughter.
